How to Lose Weight by Dietitian Cover Letter: How to Eat Healthy, Sleep More and Have Less Stress
Health professionals are being asked to help their clients eat more healthy meals, lose weight and avoid obesity by providing dietitians with personalized, customized diet plans that incorporate food and beverage recommendations.
The goal is to create an environment where clients can focus on their health and wellness while also being part of a supportive network, according to The Nutrition Institute, an advocacy group.
A recent survey by the advocacy group found that dietities have been asked to create diets that are “consistent with what a typical client would want.”
The survey also found that more than 70 percent of dietitists had used a diet plan that incorporated food and beverages.
“The goal of these strategies is to provide an environment that supports clients’ personal and professional wellness while minimizing stress,” said Julie E. Biederman, senior nutrition advisor for the Institute, in a statement.
A study conducted by the Nutrition Institute and the University of Southern California found that a typical diet plan used by dietitaries would include foods like: 1) low-fat yogurt 2) whole grains, fruits and vegetables, protein and fats 3) low sodium, sugar-free drinks, fruits, vegetables and whole grains 4) no processed foods or sweets 5) moderate amount of alcohol, and no processed food items.
Brederman also found more than 90 percent of respondents in a survey said that the majority of clients were “very happy” with their diet and that “some clients were not at all happy with their dietary strategies.”
According to the Institute’s survey, the majority are either over 50 or over 65.
About a third of diet therapists surveyed said they felt like their clients were struggling with their weight.
Some clients were also asked to use a diet that was “too restrictive,” said Biedermans survey findings.
“We found that many clients who were told their diets were too restrictive did not want to follow the restrictive diet recommendations and instead were able to modify their diets to be more healthful,” said Eileen O’Reilly, senior vice president of nutrition and wellness at The Nutrition Instiute.
“But for many clients, they still felt like they were struggling.”
“In addition to helping clients feel more confident in their dietary decisions, this diet plan can be used by clients to learn how to manage stress in a more mindful and supportive environment,” O’ Reilly continued.
A survey of diettakers by the Institute found that 55 percent were currently in an eating disorder and that 17 percent had tried an eating-disorder treatment and 20 percent had attempted a weight loss diet.
According to a survey conducted by The Nutrition Group, 43 percent of surveyed dietitics said they are currently overweight or obese.
A total of 547 dietitarians participated in the survey, of whom 542 (47.7 percent) are women and 614 (37.5 percent) were men.
Of the respondents, nearly a third are dietitiers who specialize in weight loss and a third dietiters who specialize a wide range of services including personal training, wellness, nutrition education, and behavioral health.
About two-thirds of the dietitiacs surveyed are women, according a survey from the Institute.
O’Riley noted that diettiacs are often faced with a challenging situation.
“Some clients struggle with weight and others struggle with depression, anxiety, or a combination of the three,” she said.
“These are all important, but they are not always easily identifiable and they require a team approach to overcome these challenges.
The dietitia is an important part of the team to help clients get the support they need to stay healthy and happy.”
